10.6 Measures against discrimination

10.6.1 - Does your university as a body have an admissions policy which is non-discriminatory or which details and explains the logic for any appropriate positive discrimination policies in admissions, which is publicly posted?

Urgench State University is strongly committed to principles of equity, justice, and tolerance in all aspects of its operations, including admissions.

Urgench State University has a clear, non-discriminatory admissions policy aligned with both our internal standards and the guidelines set by the Ministry of higher education, science and innovations of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This policy guarantees that all students, whether at the undergraduate or postgraduate level, are given equal opportunities for admission, regardless of their gender, nationality, disability, religion or social status.

10.6.2 - Does your university as a body measure/track applications & admissions of underrepresented (and potentially underrepresented) groups including ethnic minorities, low income students, non-traditional students, women, LGBT students, disabled students, and newly settled refugee students?

Urgench State University utilises a comprehensive Higher Education Management Information System (HEMIS), which serves as a centralised platform for tracking and managing applications from a wide range of student demographics, including those from under-represented or potentially under-represented groups. This system allows Urgench State University to monitor applications and admissions across various categories, including traditional male and female students, non-traditional and international candidates, students with disabilities and other diverse groups.

10.6.3 - Does your university as a body take planned actions to recruit students/staff/faculty from under-represented groups?

Urgench State University is committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity and has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at increasing access to higher education for students from under-represented groups. These initiatives encompass financial aid programmes, scholarships, collaborations with loan companies and partnerships with charitable organisations.

10.6.4 - Does your university as a body have anti-discrimination policy?

Urgench State University is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and equal opportunity learning environment where all members of the university community can thrive without fear of discrimination or harassment. The university strictly adheres to anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies, ensuring that everyone on campus is treated with respect and dignity.

10.6.6 - Does your university as a body provide mentoring/counselling/peer support programmes to support students, staff, faculty from underrepresented groups?

10.6.7 - Does your university as a body provide accessible facilities for people with disabilities?

For the university, not only the comfort of students is of particular importance, but also opportunities for people with disabilities. There are special parking spaces and separate paths for wheelchairs. The landings have been expanded with ramps. Each academic building has information signs in Braille at the entrance. it is also used on the elevator buttons and in all information resources of the university. Audio systems are also installed in the university buildings. Separate toilets are equipped with grab bars and toiletries. The university used all necessary means of assistance for people with disabilities. The priority of the university is to give students the opportunity to gain knowledge and implement them, despite human illnesses and disabilities.

10.6.10 - Does your university as a body have reasonable accommodation policy/strategy implemented, including adequately funded mechanism for persons with disability?

Conditions for students with disabilities and special needs: There is a system of assistance for students with disabilities and special needs. The university provides financial assistance in accordance with Article #68 of the Collective Agreement, taking into account family circumstances and the need for treatment and medication. The Urgench State University dormitory accommodates 14 students with disabilities and has a separate living room, bathroom and toilet. Students with disabilities have free group accommodation for students with group 1 eye disease and a 50% discount for students with group 2 and 3 disabilities. Currently, 12 orphans live in the dormitory. They are also 100% exempt from the monthly dormitory fee. Students with disabilities who have difficulty walking are provided with ramps to access the stairwells.
